Thai in Murray Hill
Sunday, July 23, 2006We checked out Aura Thai last night for the first time. Pleasantly surprised is the assessment. It has been open for about two months on the First Block across the street from Moon River Pizza. I have been hoping for an alternative to Italian food here in Murray Hill.
After spending about five minutes at the bar we were seated and enjoyed a bottle of wine and some pad thai. I wanted to compare the food to Pom’s in San Marco and Aura Thai held it’s own. The staff could not have been better and the atmosphere and décor was unique to Murray Hill.
Autrelle, our waiter informed us that later in the evening around 10 pm there would be a live jazz band. On the weekends Aura Thai boasts itself as a lounge with live music, thai tapas and a thorough wine lists. Definitely A Hill recommendation.
is aura thai as expensive as pom’s?
It is comparable, but slightly less expensive. At Pom’s you can go over the top really quick with wine, drinks and appetizers. For example at Aura Thai, without tip, we had an appetizer, two entrees, and a midrange bottle of wine for $55. I think for the service, ambiance, and food it is a better value.
Thanks for the positive feedback. If at anytime you are at Aurathai and you are not completely satisfied, please feel free to contact me at the restaurant (904.389.thai) or email me (autrelle@gmail.com). Cheers!!!
After having experienced Boston’s famous North End restaurants and various cuisines around the city for many years, I have been somewhat displeased with the quality of food and the level of service found here in Jacksonville. That was until a friend introduced me to Aura Thai. After living here a year, I was finally impressed enough to find something comparable to the tastes of “back home” that I actually had to start working there!
I agree with the assessment of Boston. I just returned from there two weeks ago and we did our share of eating. I had to take in as much of the big city cuisine as possible. Jacksonville does have its bright spots though, and Aura Thai is one of them. Not only the food, but the ambiance helps set it apart. I was surprised the first time I came in that the place was packed. I thought I was going to be one of the originals but word has spread quickly. For that I am thankful, we need to support the local restaurants here in Murray Hill hopefully urging other quality spots to the area.
