Where is Murray Hill?
Thursday, August 3, 2006This probably should have been The Hill’s first post but I myself was not positive. The question has been posed several times since moving to the area “Where is Murray Hill”. What are the neighborhood perimeters and how does it differ from Riverside, Ortega, or other Westside neighborhoods. A look at map quest searching for Edgewood Avenue and Post Street shows that intersection to be about the center of Murray Hill but it extends out from there.
The boundaries are as such: Roosevelt Boulevard and McDuff Avenue to the East, Interstate 10 and Lenox Avenue to the North, Cassat Avenue to the West, and Park Street to the South.
So now all those in Avondale know, when you cross those tracks on Edgewood you have entered The First Block of Murray Hill.
I would say Roosevelt Blvd to the South and McDuff to the East. Park runs through Riverside and Avondale and is further South than Roosevelt.
Great job on the new site. Nice to see MH represent.
I agree, I did leave out McDuff by accident, but I stand by Park as the southern border….Roosevelt never cuts off Murray Hill on the south side. MHPA has a similar but slightly different interpretation as well. Thanks for checking out the site.

I see what you mean now. The part of Park between Roosevelt and Cassat. I was talking about Roosevelt along the SE side, for example the spot you mentioned where those from Avondale enter the First Block is when they cross Roosevelt, but this is not the direct South side, but rather Southeast.
I’ve always considered the Roosevelt railroad tracks the dividing line as well. Otherwise, if Park is the dividing line, someone who lives at the corner of Remington and Edgewood would be in Murray Hill and that seems like Avondale to me. The neighborhood just looks and feels completely different over there.
I agree with you Jibreel, that’s why I listed Roosevelt along with McDuff as the eastern borders.
Remington is definitely Avondale.
[...] . Maybe I’m wrong about “Where is Murray Hill” but to me, that is not it. It makes our neighborhood look terrible when the news headlines splashed across the headlines “Man Killed in Murray Hill Shooting”. No matter where it happens it is unacceptable but especially in Murray Hill, where ever that is. [...]
