Murder – Suicide in Murray Hill

Monday, November 5, 2007

I normally despise those types of headlines because there are geographically inaccurate but this time that is not the case.  Apparently a man in a dispute with his exgirlfriend shot her and then himself in the Bank of America parking lot on Edgewood Avenue Saturday afternoon.

The woman died at the scene, the man lived through the night but died Sunday from the gunshot wound.  This appears to be a domestic violence incident and hopefully an isolated one.

  1. Unfortunately, this is the sort of thing that may turn off potential new neighbors.

My husband and I love Murray Hill, having lived here for ten years, but the violence is becoming a concern. Personally I have no desire to move, however. You just cannot duplicate the atmosphere, the architecture, and the charm.

  2. Any updates on the work that was done farther down on Edgewood?

  3. Does anyone actively check or update this site?

  4. I check it every day…but it doesn’t seem anyone updates regularly. Perhaps the current manager should pass/share the conch.

  5. I’m glad you guys check it out, I wasn’t sure if anyone did. I do try to update the site but in a busy world that is easier said than done. I do plan on posting new information on the Edgewood Avenue construction as well as the progress at the “Pool Hall”. Keep checking back and I will do my best to post more frequently.

  6. thanks for any updates, I wasn’t sure if they had finished the renovations on the other side of Edgewood or not?

  7. Is there a better way to contact you, oh murray hill blogger-friend? Email perhaps? I sometimes come across stuff here in Riverside that might be of interest, and I usually send out an email to local urban core bloggers when something like that comes up. RADO is starting a development on the border between the two neighborhoods, for example, and I’d love to get information to Murray Hill home-seekers about it.

  8. hey the hill, what is the new place that opened across from moon river next to aurathai? I wasn’t sure if it was a bar or a restaurant or what. All I see is 1171, which I assume is the address, but no name. Thanks!

  9. I saw that murray hill got some positive publicity on the front page of saturdays TU referencing ruth upson elementary and murray hill baptist church. Glad to see that, rather than muggings and murders.

  10. My family used to live in Murray Hill in the ’60’s.

My 10 year old brother was found deceased in the 3700 block of Mayflower St. on February 4th, 1968.

Despite the many suspicious things about Glen’s death; his death was determined and ruled to be “accidental”.

40 years later Glen’s family is still seeking and fighting for justice for Glen.

A family friend has made a youtube video and we would like people in Jax to please view the video and the pass it along to others. Since my family no longer lives in Jax; we are asking the people of Jax to help us get the video circulating around Jax; particulary in the Murray Hill district.

We are hoping that there are people in Jax who remember the news story about the little boy who was found “hanging” on Mayflower St. in Jax in 1968.
And we are hoping that there is someone in Jax who might have heard or seen something on the night Glen was missing (Feb. 3rd) or the following morning when his body was found (Feb. 4th); 1968.

We still cling to the hope that there is someone who can provide new information about Glen’s death.

The link for the video is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4HKB4v3nRY

If that link doesn’t work; please just go to:

And then enter the search words Justice For Glen Davenport
