1171
Monday, January 21, 2008The Hill checked out the new restaurant 1171 on Saturday night not to be disappointed. Luckily I made a reservation because it was crowded at 8:30 despite the nasty weather. The place was larger than I had envisioned with a bar area on one side of the room and seating for dinner on the other. If I had to compare 1171 to another restaurant I would say it closely resembles Bistro AIX in ambiance, prices, and quality of food. The menu is all a la carte and you can request half orders of the entrees for reduced prices. I had a Caesar salad and the filet for my main course. I always start with the basics at a new restaurant because if you can’t get those right there is no need to take it any further. There was a full liquor bar and a decent wine lists where you could purchase by the bottle or the glass.
Again the food was very good and although it is a fairly new establishment the service was respectable. I hope these qualities are consistent. The Reservation Chophouse started out with the same vigor but the service started out shaky and never improved causing their ultimate demise. I’m excited to have a new dining option on The First Block and hope the neighborhood will support 1171.
thanks for the update, I’ll try to check it out this weekend, it got good reviews on the link, so hopefully it’ll be able to stay around
I work for the firm that did the design. We were extremely excited to see it finally open to the public. The neighborhood has been great supporting 1171 so far, and I have no doubt that it will continue that way. As an aside, most of the servers/staff came over from The Chop House shortly after it closed down, so they definitely know what they’re doing.
Jacksonville Confidential will be checking 1171 out this coming Friday, we made our reservations a week or so ago and cant wait to see what Fernando, Lance, and Holly have in store for us. Be on the lookout for a thorough review (with pics) on Monday.

I agree with the positive review of 1171. The food was great my first time there, and I’ve been back twice since to find it just as tasty. The service was top notch. I loved the after dinner ginger bread cookies. This weekend my girlfriend and I are going to the symphony, and we’ll have dinner after the show (the later hours of 1171 are also something that make it a great place to plan dinner for us).
The new pool place is opening Feb 20th, it’s not cues and brews, I think it’s like perfect rack billiards or something like that.
anyone know what happened with the big hole in Post st?
I reserved a table for 10 in a private room to celebrate my birthday with a few close friends & family this past Sat. night (1/31/09). The table is located is located in a small intimate room with soft lighting toward the back of the restaurant. The room is ideal for a small celebration, etc. I love it because you can actually have a conversation without having to shout over other people’s voices.
The service was EXCELLENT. Our server’s name was Britton (not sure of the spelling). She was attentive, friendly, and went out of her way to accommodate us in any way she could. (Ex. taking pictures, etc.)
Now to the food part. I ordered the small portion salmon with coconut rice. I cannot begin to express how delicious it was. My husband ordered the lamb shank. The meat was falling off the bone. Everyone in my party said their meal was fantastic. I hope Jacksonville continues to support this restaurant. To me, it’s like a hidden treasure in our area. If you live across the river, make the trip over- you will not be disappointed.
